HIGH IMPACT POLYSTYRENE (HIPS)
(Download PDF document)
Impact modified polystyrene is an amorphous thermoplastic with relatively low temperature resistance, but having good electrical properties. HIPS has relatively limited chemical resistance, but is generally resistant to most foods, drinks and household cleaning fluids. HIPs materials are attacked by citrus fluids, gasoline, turpentine and paint thinners. Because of the relatively good impact resistance and low cost, high impact polystyrene is one of the most widely used thermoplastics. There are many applications for appliance cabinetry and parts, tape reels, toys house wares and furniture.
