IONOMERS

Surlyn®

Ionomers are cross linked polymers based on inter-chain (molecular) ionic bonding. The result is a polymer with properties similar to those of higher molecular materials. The primary characteristics of Ionomers are toughness, tensile and impact strength, abrasion resistance and in their “natural” form, optical quality. High impact strength and resistance to “cut through” make Ionomers suitable for many sports applications – including golf ball and bowling pin covers, ski boots, bumper, buoys, and automotive components. There are numerous formulations including decorative and vacuum forming grades, available in many colors.
